My daughter's pug 206 has knackered bearings on the a/c compressor. Is it possible to change these in situ, ie without discharging the system, and are the bearings or a hub available? And it seems from a preliminary exploration that the nut on the end is 1/4" W, is that correct?

Usually yes, but often a special puller is needed to pull the clutch hub from the shaft.

If the bearings in question are the ones on the compressor clutch, then it might be do able in situ, but if they are the compressor main bearing then the seals will be damaged and all internal pressure will have been lost anyway.
