These seem to have a very short life - about three years. Then they perish and start leaking. They seem to be made of strange rubber. Or is there a good brand that keeps going for longer? Can anyone recommend anything before I go and buy another?

I find they normally only fail at the end & it's a tradeoff, the rubber ones perish there, but I still use them as they're more flexible than the heavier braided ones. The Bostitch & Metabo ones seem to last better than Clarkes.
If you've a branch of Pirtek near you, take the original hose to them complete with the unions and they'll make one up on the spot.
Making one up is not a problem because I've got the metal tails. All I need do is push the hose on and Jubilee it. Question is, what hose? Duncan has suggested that I'll have to put up with a new hose every few years unless I'm prepared to use a rather inflexible one.
