Peugeot 106 Diesel fan belt

The fan belt on my Peugeot 106 Diesel is a bit loose, probably needs replacing. I only have rudimentary tools - is it easy enough for me to accomplish a replacement?

TIA

Why do you think it needs replacing: is it very frayed? Tightening is quite a bit easier than replacing. Space is likely to be tight so you will probably need open end and ring spanners, and possibly a 3/8 inch drive socket set. If you feel the need to ask here, you ought to ask a more experienced mate to give you a hand.

The fan belt is squealing on start up, although it grips after a few seconds. I did have a look at, what I believe to be the amusement mechanism, it appears to be at right out, or in, depending how you look at it. I just assumed the fan belt had stretched to its limit.

Yes, you're right. The car amuses itself by taking the skin off your knuckles.

Yeah, looking at it I couldn't agree more...

They don't normally stretch that much. When badly worn, they start exposing the cords inside, and thus appear to "fray". My money would be on someone having fitted an oversize belt, which could explain the slipping.

Maybe, but I have heard belts slip like this before. I've had the car for 18 months, its been fine until a week ago.
