Astra suffering occasionally...

A friends Astra (54 reg?) has an interesting issue. Occasionally during a longish drive the engine will labour and lose power, then die completely.

If she dips the clutch and gives it a rolling start it immediately starts fine and is good as new.

It only happens every few weeks.

Any ideas? I was thinking maybe fuel filter?

Does the Engine Management light come on on the dashboard ?

if it is pettrol then I would replace the fuel pump relay first as they do this, worse and worse over time.

Not sure, I've never been in it when it did it.

She did say 'all the lights come on and that's how I know the engine has stopped' so it's quite possible.

It is petrol. Is the fuel pump relay well known on these then?

I guess it's a simple push fit, and it's ..um.. in one of the fuse boxes? Where is it in these?

yes it is common, the last one I did was behind the kick panel by the drivers feet, I don't know if they are all located in the same place, the last one I did was a bit older

OK, Thanks. They're not too expensive, so I may as well try it...

Google says it looks like older models have them in the fusebox under the bonnet, later models in the drivers footwell.
