Audi A2 Alarm.

We have a 2001 Audi A2 in the stable which has recently been irritating everyone by having its alarm go off sporadically.

The alarm that sounds is a soft beeper accompanied by the hazards which indicates that the ultrasonics have detected something.

A cursory scan with VAG COM came up with:

01616 Signal wire to internal monitor 49-00 No communications

It's difficult to test because I can't seem to get it to go off consistently.

The wires at the ultrasonic control gubbins by the interior light are clean, dry and happy-looking, but that's as much of the alarm wiring as I know about.

Does anyone here assembled have any suggestions as to where to look for problems with the alarm circuits or how to test them?

Looking on the web this is a common problem, the sensitivity can be lowered (using vagcom) to cure it.

Sensitivity Adjustment

[Select] [45 - Int. Monitor] [Adaptation - 10] Enter channel 01 Enter a value between 50-100 (it should be 100 by default) for the sensitivity of the ultra-sound sensors [Save]

Cool, thanks very much for the input. Gotta be worth a shot.

We've had the car from new and previously, the only false positives we've had from the alarm were when the bonnet switch went dicky, but its not that this time because the alarm sounds differently for that.

Is the alarm sensitivity likely to drift out over time and require recalibration like this do you think?
