My audi A4 Avant 1997 1.9tdi has a worrying knocking noise coming from the front of the vehicle as the car bounces along country roads.
I have replaced two very worn control arms, whilst the car was up on a hoist with the wheels hung slack, I checked the remaining control arm ball joints and they have no play in them. What else could give me this knocking noise. The car handles ok, but im concerned its something structural, what else can I check.
