bmw 318 pulling to N/S

Hi Anyone any ideas I had a look at a BMW today the customer said it pulls to the nearside, I couldn't find anything obvious, though the near side rear tyre was flat. I think this flat tyre could cause this fault does anyone else.

I agree but tracking faults don't just start one day - do they? what causes tracking problems? Ive never given this a thought until now.

So you think with a car pulling to one side (N/S) you would think it obvious to check the rear tyres?......err

No its not: its a question would a flat tyre on the rear cause this problem? I know it could causes a car not to behave as if its being dragged along and the steering would be all over the place.

Well, yes I would. I would certainly expect to have all tyres at the correct pressures before I started to investigate further.

But if you pump it up you'll know for certain whether this is causing the problem.

I am being honest. I wouldn't dream of looking for anything else or even posting on this ng before I'd inflated the tyres properly. But like it was said before, maybe this is a windup.

Honestly rob this isn't a windup, my first thoughts on a car pulling to the near side would be either the nearside front tyre or the tracking. I wouldn't identify this problem with the rear tyres as my first choice.

Any difference in rolling resistance between the n/s and o/s of a car can affect the steering. Such as differing tyre pressures, or uneven tyre wear from side to side, a rubbing brake, etc. Even an odd make or different type of tyre. How noticeable it is can depend a lot on the make and model of the car. Some are more affected than others. Mike.
