BMW Dealers.

See my local BMW main dealer has closed. Coopers Wimbledon. Not surprising given the appalling standard of service I had from them, and I won't lose any sleep over it.

Had my car MOT'd at my local BMW/Merc specialist and they were very quiet judging by their car park. Every other time I've been there over the past

5 years or so it's been packed. Hope they can survive.

Clarkson reckons the BMW crowd (i.e. the posy wankers driving 3-series repmobiles, indicators a factory option) have jumped ship to Audi, as they're now "cool".

Thank fk for that, means I can enjoy driving one again in a few months, of course I do have the factory option indicators fitted to mine!

Yeah, and it really annoys me as a long time Audi cabriolet owner.

It's not just Clarkson who believes that. I'd spotted that the majority of foglight blazing, tailgating fuckwits were driving Audis months before he pointed it out.

Yes, I noticed it too. It happened about the time of the new ugly-in-an interesting-way BMWs (which I prefer).

Audi styling meanwhile is still converging more and more to what BMW had been doing-- make a car that looks like a child's drawing of a car, but with a lot of smugness in the details. That's the way to hook a bourgeois f****it.

I think Audi were already beating BMW at their own game which is why BMW changed tack.

I still think the styling back in the late 1990s is a classic look, certainly that'll be why I'll be hanging onto my motor for as long as possible.

Don't really, just prefer not to be labelled because of the car I drive. Although I've noticed a definite lack of courtesy to drivers of German cars from other drivers so anything that pushes that onto Audi drivers is OK in my book.

Me too. If someone tears past you at (your speed + 30mph) on the Motorway these days, it's an Audi. Used to be a BMW.

Oi!

TBH I suspect there's a bit of that in any big expensive car. I've borrowed a Jag this week, and people seem to go out of their way to make your life difficult by pulling out on roundabouts and trying to stop you merging in traffic.

I didn't really think there was much in this until the time I had to make two trips to the same place for work a week apart. Couldn't have asked for a better test scenario.

The first time I had a 'standard' car. (Very very standard - a Silver 1.8 Vectra). The second time I had a Silver Vectra GSi (IIRC - it was ages ago - it was a chavved up Vectra, anyway). The only visible difference was shiny wheels and a spoiler.

In the second car it was much more difficult to get let out of junctions, to merge, all the usual places where people get petty.

As for now, I go out of my way to be nice to people when I'm driving the BMW, just to see the shock on their face!
