Amateur main dealers!!!!!!

For the first time EVER i entrusted a maintenance job to my local bmw main dealer. They obviously needed the work, as they didn't turn away my

15 year old 730i.

Anyway, when i got home i imediatly smelt oil burning ... so went up front to be greeted by auto gearbox oil all over the starter, rear of engine, all underneath and on the rear bumper.

It had been over-filled. In 12 years of bmw ownership, the one and only time i ever get someone to do spanner work on my car, they bodge it!!!!!! In all this time, i've done major engine rebuilds, gearbox swaps, diff swaps, dashboard swaps, service indicator repairs (yes ...I .. can fix 'em), head rebuilds for other people, etc .... and have never had to do the same repair on any one car twice (apart from tyres and exhausts). Hwwwwwwwwuhhhhh !!!! I be fuming more than the red oil on my exhaust manifold!!! SERIOUS out of proportion educational visit will be paid to main delear on monday. Maybe they said "hey kevin ... you have been here a year now making tea for the receptionist ... have a go at changing the gearbox oil on this old bmw, then you can try fitting numberplates".

My BMW main dealer changed the diff recently to cure a whine - it didn't make any difference (except for the £1100 bill the leasing company paid!). One dealer says the whine is the propshaft, the other says its the gearbox.

Propshaft?? How the hell can a propshaft whine?

There's a bearing about halfway along it.

Isn't there a specialist near you? The *only* reason I use my main dealer is for the service book stamps - and there's no point doing this on a 15 year old car.

There is an independent specialist near me, but as my mate had the local franchise do his gearbox oil and filter for a reasonable price, i thought i'd entrust my car to them as well for the same job.

My job leaves me little spare time at the moment, hence the use of someone else to do the maintenance.

Should get quiet soon, then i'll be playing with that leaking diif on the

730i. And the faulty bulb in the trip computer. er .... thats it!!!
