citroen xantia 2.0 hdi

Hello all, This is a question on behalf of my mate at work.

He has just got a 2000 plate xantia.

The saloon temperature control lever has no effect. It is always hot. It has air conditioning. That makes no difference.

I know these details are a little vague, but does it seem like something simple to repair ?

thanks

Is it a thermostatic marked-in-deg-C control, rather than a simple red- blue?

If so, as I'd expect (but a base-spec car might be simpler) there's a temp sensor and a motor controlling the hot-cold flap rather than a simple mechanical link. First place would be to make sure the sensor's playing - check the resistance varies across a variety of temperatures, then it's probably a problem with the motor. Reading the diagnostic codes would help you a lot.

Before you enter into the world of pain that is the Xantias A/C electrics get the AC pressure checked.

I talked to him today. The temperature lever is marked with degrees.

He says he doesn't care about the A/C. He'd just like some cool air now and again !

The stereo was removed before he got the car. He says there are 2 screws below the hole where the stereo should be. Will removing these give him access to the rear of the controls ?

Many thanks, Citroen buffs !

However the rest of the system cuts out if the pressures too low.

thanks, told him that

now he says that one of the rear electric windows is dead, the switch doesnt even light up like the others.

Is this probably a fuse job ?

As you can see, I'm not big into cars, but I know some electronics/electrical stuff.

thanks

Only if you're very lucky.

Well you can fun with a Xantia then. Good luck finding a wiring diagram, the Autodata one is close to accurate...

I'd check the switch first, they just lever out, swap with the other rear one. I had a dodgy one, luckily I had access to a "parts car" at the time ;)

Could be. Or a dodgy switch.

But my money's on a previous owner having unplugged the switch, because the steel wire rope in the motor's gone ping. There's probably a bit of wood in the door holding the glass up...
