Cost of Tyre Fitting and Balancing

I'm looking to order 4 tyres online for a Matiz. Can someone give me an idea what I should expect to pay for fitting and balancing?

Cheers all

Should be your first port of call.

Try these and more you'll find online. If one looks silly priced (high or low) then the chances are it's too good to be true.

Perhaps, I've not made myself clear, DervMan. Blackcircles is already on my shortlist as I've heard good reports about them.

I'm looking for what you would consider a reasonable charge, for my local tyre shop to fit and balance the 4 corners.

Your Worst Nightmare (trabant owners club@Nicks place.comco) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

Ring 'em and ask 'em...

Or click the button that says "Fully Fitted price" on blackcircles.

My tyre place charges 2 pounds per tyre for fitting, valve, balancing and disposal of the old tyre on tyres bought from them, I would not dream of asking them to fit tyres supplied by someone else, however in your case as they won't earn out of the tyres, probably about ten pounds each, personally I would tell you to p##s off if you brought in tyres from someone else and wanted them fitted as I would consider it very rude of you to even ask !!

Because, my local tyre shop only deals in part worn tyres.

That's why I asked here, what a "reasonable" price would be to fit and balance them.

If it's going to be ridiculously expensive, I might as well go straight to Kwikfit...

The price varies dramatically across the country and from shop to shop, you really should ask your local bloke, if he will do it and how much.

When I last bought some tyres online, my local independant was down as a "fitting centre" when I went for fitting I was charged £7 each I think. Mech told me he just answered the phone one day and it was Blackcircles or Mytyres asking if he'd be a fitter for them, he said yes and that was the last he heard from 'em, just got people calling in who'd got his name/address from the website. He was happy to do 'em, as long as you left 'em and he could get 'em done between jobs...

Go to Black circle and they will give you a list of local fitters and quote a fitted price. If you have had a supply only price you will then know the fitting charge. Go to Kwik Fit and pay a lot more if you wish. Can I have your details so I can do a "recommend a friend" to Black Circle. Then they will give me discount on my next purchase ))

Gotcha. Well, I'd say that Black Circles' £10 or so for fitting, disposal, valves and balancing, plus a surcharge from some fitters for alloys, is a _little_ bit over the top. But not by much.

It would be worth a call to one or more tyre fitters to say, "Black Circles says you can fit the tyre for X, well each XYZ tyre will cost me £33, so, can you match the price?"

I've found that main dealers are often very competitive with tyres, you just have to tell them that you can buy the tyre for X elsewhere... :)

Certainly buying them online is not always the cheapest.

I wanted Conti Eco-contacts, 185-65-14H. Lowest online (fitted) price was etyres at £53.90. Local tyre place did 'em for £39!

Small place's will do it from around £7 , the big chains will probaly refuse to fit tyres not supplied by them. I think we charge £8 +vat for Mytyre customers? when I can remember how to change it, I will be increasing that to £10

Absolutely yes. It's worth checking, sometimes somewhere will have a special deal on.

Also, buying replacements at the end of a quarter can be handy...

I bought (and eventually received) two tyres for my DS from mytyres. Their section on local fitters was laughably inaccurate: they claimed an arrangement with one local garage which (a) disclaimed all knowledge and (b) charged three times as much as mytyres claimed.

However ... I was put on to another local place who said on the phone that they'd do 'em for a tennera wheel. I suspect that will be plus VAT and disposal, but if they honour it when I turn up I'll be pleased. They probably won't be, though, as centreless 5-stud stel wheels are a pain to balance ...

The problem is the fitting partners was setup a couple of years ago, I can't remember how to log in and change my fitting charges. I see one place near me has his price as £5 , I know he charges £12 now but like me he can't remember how to change it.

they claimed

Most places will surcharge closed centre wheels, it takes 10x as long to mount the wheel on the balancer and the adapter is about £400 to buy.

Accompanied by the sound of a chisel on slate Your Worst Nightmare, managed to produce the following words of wisdom

Garage I'm involved in charges £7.50 a tyre to fit and balance, that includes getting rid of your old tyres.

This may settle the argument: look under "Your fitting service companies". Also interesting is MyTyres' suggestion to new tyre fitters' charges under "Fitting Stations wanted!".

Why? It's no different in the work involved from repairing a puncture where the tyre has to come off. Tyre places aren't usually busy 24/7 otherwise you'd not get any work done while you wait. So turning away work on a 'principle' is their loss.
