It didn't fail comprehensively and my idea of maintenance isn't just=20 changing the oil. The failure was a barely visible split that I couldnt=20 see until the car was in the air. Once it was there and the base was=20 well lit then it could be seen. Even the tester thought it was probably=20 just a small welding job. It wasn't until I got it home and started=20 prepping to do the job that I found it was even more serious. I could=20 have got it through a retest and maybe made it last a couple of years=20 longer. The car doesn't look like a heap. Even underneath it looks sound=20 unless you look very carefully. The MOT was an inspection that caught a=20 problem I missed and I'm glad it did.
