Hi - can anyone help with several minor things on a 1997 Daihatsu Hijet van with the 993cc engine.
- I recently changed the oil and filter, using 15w40 semi-synthetic. Could be my imagination but since then when starting from cold it seems to take a second or so to get to full oil pressure, and can hear things knocking slightly inside the engine. It's probably fairly normal but comments appreciated. Could there be a non-return valve inside the filter that's faulty? It's hard also to tell the correct level of oil, as the dipstick comes out covered in oil from touching the side of the tube it sits in after taking out, wiping and reinserting, so have put in slightly more than the 3.1 litres recommended in the owners handbook.
- I need to know the correct size of socket to get the plugs out. They are pretty much hidden away below the side of the engine, and don't want to damage them as it's difficult to feel if the socket I have is fitting properly. Plugs should be RN9YC NGK.
- The ignition setting is stated as 5 deg BTDC, but I cannot find any timing marks on the engine or pulleys - can anyone help me identify them? A connector also apparently needs to be shorted out when checking the timing. I feel it needs checking as the engine is pinking slightly under load when climbing gradients.
