EBC Brakes

Anyone got any comments to offer, good or bad, about brake components from EBC? Not particularly interested in the high-end stuff that I know they do.

I found that their "Greenstuff" pads had a tendency to warp discs, I assume due to a high metal content in the material.

Standard stuff is ok, not particularly special price wise. OE pads and discs are normally the best way unless you need to uprate.

I have been using the "Greenstuff" pads in a light motor sport application (Rover 214 - Enduro Rally). I haven't noticed any significant wear or warp-age issues so far (FWIW, apparently most warping is caused by holding the pads on the disks (e.g. stopped at traffic lights and using the foot brake rather than the hand brake) after the brakes have been used medium/heavy - this creates a hot spot on the disk that cools and contracts at a different rate to the rest of the disk).

One thing I did notice was that even with the new bedding-in coating, they seem to take much longer than most pads to bed-in and achieve real effectiveness. I did a rally after putting the pads in about 500 miles previously, which I thought would be more than enough, but it was like having Mars bars for brake pads :-O Another 500 miles and all was well, and they have been excellent ever since.

OK, must be just me then who's found that as soon as he puts a set of bog standard EBC pads onto a vehicle the braking becomes poor (on three different vehicles), and had a wheel cylinder from them seize up when just over a year old, and had another wheel cylinder supplied that was the wrong part and had been boxed up wrongly (pretty bad for brake components I thought), and another that was missing the bleed screw.

Sounds great. Unfortunately I've used dozens of brands of pad over the years. The only brand that gave me warped discs was EBC Greenstuff. And FWIW, I always use the handbrake when stopped at the lights.

I know, I use my HB at lights etc. and I still have had disks wrap (as it happens never with EBC, but there you go), hence why I said "most". :-/
