emergency battery starter re The Times

hi, the Times has included a pamphlet in their newspaper that offers for sale an emergency battery jump starter that plugs into the cigarette lighter for £29. Apparently it charges up and will then as they say, 'will provide the power surge you need'. are these any good?

Only any good (debatable!) on a car with otherwise healthy battery (i mean properly healthy) where the lights have been left on, for instance, and not quite enough juice to start.

A weak battery in cold weather- no chance.

Tim.. ( snipped-for-privacy@btinternet.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

Well, quite.

Just think about how big the ciggy lighter fuse is.

It's probably of more use as a radio memory saver when changing the battery.

For the OP - If you want something to start the car from a flat battery, then look at a small "jump box" - this sort of thing :-

They are available cheaper than that, however - I got mine for £20 at a classic car show a couple of years ago.

They would be fantastic plugged into the cigarette lighter of the car with the flat battery! :-)

I bought a jump start pack from Lidi a couple of years ago for 20 quid. Includes a compressor for the tyres - and a torch. Can be re-charged from either the cigar lighter or mains. Only been used a handful of times for jump starting but still works just fine.
