Engine running hot

I know nothing but >>> my engine is running hot, the garage can find no problem, I now find the engine oil level is way to high, will that be a problem or should I drain some. (Vauxhall Cavalier)

If you know nothing, then how do you know the oil level is way to high? If it is too high then it is a problem, but a mechanic should have spotted that.

When you check the level make sure you do it when the engine is cold, and has been standing for a while. Sometimes it can be hard to get an accurate reading. On my car the oil can come out miles up the dip stick, but after a few more tries it gives an accurate reading. There should be two markings on the dip stick, one for min, and one for max.

Take it to a different garage.

Your car may have a head gasket leak or a crack in the head or block which could allow coolant to drain into the oil. Typical symptoms might be a rising oil level coupled with a falling coolant level. Does the oil look normal or is it grey and emulsified?

Someone reports having too much oil so... you tell them how a dipstick works?

If there's too much oil it's possible the head gaskets gone and the oil is contaminated with water, which could also explain why the engine is running hot. I'd expect there to be a lack of water in the radiator, though.

Well she stated her post by saying 'I know nothing but'. The garage didn't realise that the oil level was far too high, which is quite supprising. Of course, maybe she does know something?

That would be a fairly appropriate way to start most of your posts .......
