Fiat Bravo: Knackered clutch?

Sep 24, 2006 4 Replies

Noticed a couple of days ago that my clutch pedal had become a little more stiff to push, and when pushing to the floor creaked a little - I attributed this to maybe the pedal needing a lube and thought nothing more of it. Went on a fairly long drive today, drove into a multistorey and upon winding my window down to get a ticket, heard this most unpleasant chattering noise as I pushed the clutch down which disappeared as I released it to drive away. "Bugger, knackered release bearing" was my first thought, but having driven it home the noise seems to have subsided and the clutch seems fine (although the pedal is still harder than usual).

So, I guess I'm hoping someone will tell me it's nowt to worry about, but I suppose it's time for a new clutch even though it seems to have healed itself?

Cheers

They never heal up. It's just in remission. You know what you have to do.

Almost certainly the cable has frayed. It would be worth changing it before doing the clutch.

No cable - it's hydraulic. .
