Fiesta battery warning light

Driving to work this morning my battery warning light came on. Is the most likely cause a broken alternator, or are other things equally likely (wiring / fan belt / diodes)?

Also, recently my car has been screeching as I accelerate from low revs, and every so often I get a rattling sound.

The fiesta is getting old now (140,000 miles - 1993 fiesta). If it is the alternator is it worth replacing? How much is this problem likely to cost me?

Cheers, David

the most likely fault is that the drive belt has fallen off.

Careful with that loose tongue, Dave - he might belt you!

David, check the tention on the alternator belt. If that does not solve problem, slease see Section 5 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on
