focus '03 Diesel Ghia hatchback

the car had Dunlop 215/40/ZR17 tyres fitted when i bought the car. i thought they looked nice but have had nothing but trouble since.i have had 3 new tyre since i bought it and am in the situation of having to buy 2 more for the front (sidewall bulge on one/ cracking on the other). the tyres have never been run under-inflated so i want to cut my losses and revert ot "standard" wheels and tyres. unfortunately i can't find out what these should be and how i would go about doing it.does anyone know which wheels and tyres are fitted as standard.

Ask Ford, buy a Haynes manual (and a shift key ;-))

Your local Ford garage will look it up for you, or you could get a rough idea from the various fast fitting places. They have tyre info on the sites although not always accurate. Go to blackcircles and order a different make of tyre as the ones you have sound like they were of poor quality. Maybe the previous owner used to ram it over speed hums and pavements, as that's the only way the tyres would get damaged in the way you suggest. Contact Dunlop and tell them their tyres are crap and suggest they inspect them.

Standard tyres for the 'middle of the range' Foci on alloys are 195/60-15's [1] on 15x6.5 rims. There are LOADS of cars about, which you can easy check on.

[1] Though you will find some on 195/55-15's. (slightly lower profile and harsher ride)
