Ford Brake pedal... too heavy?

Oct 16, 2003 3 Replies

Hi there

I have a Mk4 Fiesta with what seems to be a lazy brake pedal. The brakes work fine, but it seems as if the brake pedal is so heavy that the brake lights are constantly on.

Is this due to a worn spring or something? I have seen other Fords (mostly older Sierras) with the same problem.

Does anyone know a quick and easy fix for this, or is it one of those annoying jobs?

Cheers Moby.

I think you will find that the switch has popped back out of its adjustment tube. To adjust it twist the switch anticlock, push the switch toward the pedal and twist clockwise then test the brake lights andnreadjust.. This problem can also be caused by lifting the pedal or using a krooklock. It may be that you need a new switch, but I doubt it.

Thanks for that, I will have a look later.

I forgot to mention that if I lift the brake pedal slightly the brake lights turn off. Does this change the diagnosis?

no, just confirms it!!!
