Ford focus PAS fluid change

Evening gents

I was hoping some one knows of guide or how yot change the pas fluid on a focus ?

I ask because dipping a piece of paper in the pas tank comes out filthy black which I guess means its burnt and not as effective as it should be.

I have picked up some new stuff from ford in the week so just wondering what the process was.

I was guessing maybe syringe out the fluid from the tank. Disconnect one of the hose's (which is the return one) ? and stick other end in a empty bottle and crank over till no more comes out ?

or find the lowes point and disconnect and drain away ?

Just wondering where this is located on the focus ?

A heads up would be cracking, cheers.

the highest hose will be the return, pull that and stick it in a container, start the car and run it till the flow stops (running with no fluid will not instantly wreck the pump) reconnect and refill. run and turn the steering lock to lock. Use it for a while and if it still seems grubby then repeat till it seems fresh looking. The whole system does not hold a vast amount, so a couple of changes won't break the bank.

Update: Didn't take long. Took it for a drive and wow it feels less heavy a lot lighter, almost like a n ew rack! can all this happen from just changing the pas fluid ?

Very noticable difference and very happy.

I let it cool down and didn't have to top up. Loks a lot cleaner if you dip a bit of paper in, its not soot black :)

Although it was £20 for a bottle ford power steering flluid!! seems a bit much to me but hey ho, I thought genuine would be nicer to the seals.

Thanks again for you advice it was spot on as usual!
