Ford Mondeo Turbo Deisel 18 R - High Revs after Idling

My Ford Mondeo 18TD R reg has recently started to rev very high (4000+) after idling for more than 30 secs.

It happens as I am about to pull away before I release the clutch no matter how much I push own on the accelerator even if I just lightly touch.

I suspect it is a faulty or bad connection on a sensor but don't know which one.

I am reluctant to take it into a garge until I have some idea what the problem is and how much it is likely to cost.

Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

Its one of two things- check in this order:

a) Turbo seal has gone and its leaking oil into the inlet tract which is then being drawn into the engine, and its running on that. Engine will grenade if it revs hard enough. Be warned. b) Injector pump control rack is sticking. Pump will need rebuilding.

Either job is 400quid+ but do something sooner than later else you'll be needing to pick bits of engine up off the pavement!

As above, red-lining it every time you pull away will wear clutches/tyres etc out too. Must make for some interesting starts tho ;-)

You could probably pick one of these engines up, including turbo, for less than 400 quid.
