fuel pump curcit fault

HI I am wondering if anyone can help me please. I have a fiat punto gt turbo on an s reg that as late has been blowing the fuse for the fuel pump. When it first blew after I got a tow home. I looked at it the next day and found the fuse to have gone. So then I replaced it and sure enough it faild again. I have replaced the pump relays also but this has had no effect. I think it may be a short curcit but I wonder what else it could be? I did notice over the previous weeks my feul pump did not seen to hum as much as it once did. I have installed new uprated fuel pump which has only done 3000 miles (its pretty noisey) I have taken the pump out lately and conected to 12v it works fine. I am at a loss at this time as to what the problem is. It is hard to find information on this car as i cant even get a manual. please help

Do you have the specification for the new, uprated pump? It may be drawing too much current for the original electrical circuit.

Try to find the manufacturer's specification for the number of Amps it takes, and compare it to the fuse rating. If the pump is rated to draw more than about half the fuse rating, the fuse will occasionally "nuisance" blow.

*WARNING* Do Not, at this stage, be tempted to just use a higher value fuse! If mu guess is correct you should obtain professional advice as to whether the electrical system will support that pump without modification.
