The managing director has just called to say that if the alternator was damaged then the battery would very quickly run down whilst the car was being driven and then you would not be able to drive it. In other words he disagrees with my theory of why the alternator failed which is:
- alternator damaged whilst they had the car - possibly when taking the engine/gearbox out or other
- they put a new battery in (for some reason)
- 5 days after getting the car back it needed a jump start, and only lasted 5 days because for the first 4 days it was little used and no night driving.
- It failed becasue on the 5th day back I did night and early morning driving and so used the headlights.
Question Will a car run with a broken alternator (if you get it jump started)? The managing director says it will not.
Thank you
