golf problem

hi,

2001 1.6 golf

when driving for about an hour and a half, when I stop and put it in neutral the engine seems to lightly rev itself ? happened twice now. Usually when I do motorway journeys.

Could anyone shed any light on this ?

Aircon compressor kicking in?

I know my Passat 1.8T used to do it, as does the wife's Alfa.
