89 Golf GL mysteriously stalling

Nov 22, 2005 2 Replies

Hi VW foks,

Golf was at a stop light idling and I heard the idle shift sounds to a weaker sound, but was still idling fine.

Then when I accelerated it sounded like it was going to die and I lost all my power. Car would just die if I tried to rev engine and engage clutch. But idled semi-fine.

I pushed it to the side (in heavy traffic :-| ) and let it idle for a while, then after 5 minutes of revving it, the engine revved a little by itself like it was coming back to life, and started running fine again. I thought this was just a one-off thing but then it happened again.

Any ideas,

Cheers.

check the ground wires at the intake manifold or cyl. head coolant flange. check fuel pressure regulator for ruptured diaphram leaking fuel into vacuum hose check throttle switches and wiring check air flow box and hose check coolant temperature sensor for the FI

I will ASSuME you have it properly tuned with excellent quality ign parts!!!!!
