Heater problems on Mondeos

And the faults would be?

I'd guess an uncontrollable heater. The Mk 1/2 Mondeos (AFAIK) use vacuum operated flaps. You lose a hose, and you lose control over the destination and temperature.

Temperature on the Mk1 is cable, (don't know about the Mk2), usual fault is that the cable kinks - need to change the one on mine when I get a tuit :)

Destination is a vacuum hose though, if it goes then it is permanently on Windscreen. The hose goes down behind the dash and through the bulkhead, it's a dash-out job to replace.

I had a look at both of them today and my N Reg. which was blowing over the windscreen only and would not change except to switch it off, was a vac. pipe off. I must have blown it off when I cleaned the engine bay with my high pessure water in the summer (?)

My friends car - a R reg. (both diesel) had what I thought was a similar fault, but when he brought it round, it was the temperature selector not working. It was stuck on cold and from the feel of it the end of the cable was stuck, but we could not see where this went. My manual did not cover his car and we did not fancy the extensive dismantling that appeared to be necessary to even find where the steel cable went. I could see the fan assembly but not where the cable was. His vacuum seems ok as the selector turns between functions.

So his heater still does not work at all. At least mine did and coming from the dash was probably the best place to fail as steam on the windscreen is the worst problem. Mine works perfectly now. Any ideas?
