How do you de ice in the morning ?

Takes about a minute and involves sitting in the car getting warm. Ford Focus with Quickclear screen. The car is parked in a sheltered drive so the side windows get only a very faint layer of frost, if anything. Start her up, both screen heaters on, after a minute or so the cabin temperature is usually enough to clear the side screens just by winding them down and back up again.

Not a good idea to pour warm water on a cold windshield as the glass can crack because of this.

I've been using the bucket-of-hot-water trick for something like 25 years and never had a windscreen crack yet.

This is what this whole thread has been about. IT appears that no one has ever cracked their windscreen over this apart from one person who said the "person up the road" may have had treatment for it.

So I think you're safe if you don't biol a kettle and do it that way. Warm water from a tap would appear to be safe.

It would be just about believable if the windscreen was already damaged in some way (and should have been replaced).

That's what I use if I'm in a hurry. You don't need much (which also minimises the risk of creating instant ice-rinks on your drive).
