how to change rear pads on Passat yr 2000

Hi, I tried to change the rear pads on my tdi y reg passat yesterday. I got the old pads off okay but couldn't get the piston back to take the new pads.



I tried to screw in the piston (clockwise) but although it rotated it just would not go in??? I then tried anti clockwise and it comes out okay but again won't screw in???



I'm now stuck!!



I have the fluid cap off and the hand brake cable off.



Am I missing something??



My only other option is to attach a tube to the bleed nipple and open that to screw it in? is that correct?

It really is best to have the right tool for this job, it is possible to push the piston back just by turning and pushing on the piston, but not really easy. The right tool has a thread the same as the thread in the piston rod of the caliper, so as the tool pushes forward it turns the piston the right amount. If you try to use a g clamp and turn at the same time then don't put much pressure on with the clamp or you can snap the internal caliper components.
