Idle Air Control System on New Beetle

My other half drives a VW Beetle. It's on a 52 plate, so not that new, I guess.

Intermittently, the 'check engine' light comes on - for example, it'll come on today and stay lit for the drive to work, etc. but then not come on again for weeks.

While it was on, I dropped it off at a local garage who connected it up to their computer. Apparently, it's the Idle Air Control System (Solus pro code P0505). Unfortunately, the garage don't repair/replace these and advised me to go to my VW dealer.

Anyone had this done on a Beetle or Golf? Any ideas how much this would cost?

Cheers,

Sam

You can do it yourself, but you need a copy of Vag-Com to readapt it to the engine

Thanks very much for this - looks a bit complicated for me though - especially as I don't have a clue what a Vag-Com is!

Not sure why the garage referred me to a VW dealer if it's easy to fix, though.

If you have any idea of approximate costs, I'd appreciate it. Depending on how much I'm looking at, I may have to look into your suggestion in more detail.

Cheers,

Sam

Probably because they haven't bought the software, any VW specialist can do it for you. Assuming GSF don't sell them though they may be a main dealer part.
