Idling in snow

I have my climate in auto so I think it might be obscured by the CC changing the air distribution to the vents. Mind you, I've not noticed a sudden cold wind in the cabin. I don't know what engine you're referring to but maybe my 3 litre warms up quickly enough to cover the electric switch off? Also, I cheat a bit in the cold by having heated seats - this makes a massive difference to comfort in the cold.

Once the cabin is up to temperature, all the climate cars I've owned have tended to rapidly switch from an obvious heating cycle to what feels like a chilling cycle but is more likely a neutral temperature cycle IYSWIM.

It's been OK since the outside temp dropped below 10C sometime in October but since May till then it has been a constant source of frustration. Is my car untypical or do other manufacturers not provide a simple means of turning the heater off and leaving it off (like the aircon)?
