interesting noise from front of car beside wheel?

Not sure how to describe this...

I have a mondeo (relevant?) and have noticed that when I go slowly and sometimes over a bump there seems to be what can best be described as a "tinkling" clicking noise - like something is hitting a loose metal clip (there is that metalic sound to it). It would appear to come from the wheel area, but looking at it superficially and running my hand round the wheel and the rubber boot area, there is nothing obvious. I did wonder whether it was something to do with the brakes, as though a brake clip was loose, but can't be sure whether that is the case or not.

It is not constant insofar as there is not a constant noise, but it does it once, then what seems like a full wheel revolution later it happens again. When going over about 10 miles an hour is does not seem to be there anymore.

Not sure from that description whether anyone can help, but thoughts appreciated,

Thanks Greg

If it's got wheel trims have you taken them off to see if anything's trapped in there? Check the rear one too, thought my rattle was from the front but it was actually at the rear. :/

Thanks Dave - I'll check the back. However it has alloy wheels so unlikely to be trapped behind wheel trims.

I've had these sort of slow speed knocks and "Tings"

Metallic "Ting" usually turns out to be a slightly loose or bent dust shied around the front disc, vibrating a tapping against the disc or anohermetal bit.

A knock could be a shock absorber or, a faulty anto-rollbar link (difficult to spot)

My dads escort has some anti rattle springs in the brakes and when these had died, they gave similar 'tinkling noises'

I'm sure other more qualified persons here will be able to explain further.

Noises don't always come from where you think. I had an annoying noise at one time and eventually I found that the clamp round two parts of the exhaust pipe was not tight enough and centrifugal force when going round a corner caused the tail section to rotate slightly and hit the chassis. When I went round the other way it came off the chassis again.

Maybe you have something like this or a loose bit of something that hits somethging else at times.

It's possible that the top strut bearing may be worn letting the top end of the strut float, although I would expect that to produce a harder knock when you hit a bump or went round a corner.
