Can anyone please help, my astra diesel is giving me a bit of grief, im experiencing eratic low power, it seems to come on when the engine gets to working temperature, it results in me having to depress the accelerator pedal hard to the floor to get enough revs to pull away, i had it looked at a month ago by panda engineering in fareham and they diagnosed the problem as a sticky recycle vavle? the problem has returned and a distinct lack of cash means i cant take it back to the garage . can any one please offer some advice or help? Definatly sounds like the EGR valve stuck open again. Common on petrol and diseasal GM's.
Replacement, or blanking off is the only proper cure.

The EGR valve is a large silver diaphram type object with a small black vacuum hose attached to it, that sits upon a cast valve with a silver stainless tube connected to the exhaust. It's located on the inlet manifold.
On the 1.7 GM engine there is a throttle butterfly in there too.
You would remove the exhaust feed tube, fashion a gasket but with no central hole in it, and sandwich that betwixt the two. Leave all vacuum hoses connected.

Amen to that. Last time I did one (on a Mondeo, mind) it was about a 10 minute job - I fashioned a small thin blanking plate with a pair of scissors and an empty beer can, loosened the EGR valve but didn't remove it, slid the metal plate between the valve and where it attached, and tightened it all back up again. Job done...
