Earlier than R is 36k The later R reg and on have a seventy thousand interval, although they may have reduced that since I last asked.

Largely agreed, although I would add that it's my ambition to wear out this one /points to Ka/.
SR20DET has two of those as well. Kinda like the old Jag, one drives an idler sprocket which drives a shorter chain round the two cam sprockets. Bolting the stable door ....
Honda motorcycles had lots of problems with 180 degree parallel twins,
180 degree V4's and 50 degee V twins. All suffered from zero to max cam loadings and needed a design done to single cylinder standards, the use of multi cyclinder designs which only have a small ripple in cam loading meant they couldn't cope. On the parallel twin they had cams snap, so they put a middle bearing in, then the tensioners failed, they switched from regular chain to Hi-Vo and a heavy duty tensioner but at the same time they moved from 180 to 360 degree so the problem was fixed both ways. V4's wound up with gear train drive like a 50's racer.-- Peter Hill Spamtrap reply domain as per NNTP-Posting-Host in header Can of worms - what every fisherman wants. Find another dealer who is able to read his TSB's then.
Tim..
Ford did that, for the TDdi / TDci - Shame they didnt finish the job and its still nearly as crap as it was before with the twin belts.
Now we have a nice duplex hydraulically tensioned chain crank to injector pump, BUT still a belt from inj. pump to cam, AND it still breaks prematurely and buggers the cylinder head, just not quite so often!!!

Right on time?!? If their design means that their MTBF is that close to
40k then the interval should be 30k or less. It'd be insanity to sail that close to the wind with such a critical component, although I suspect that a 30k interval would be hugely unpopular (well, it would be with me - New cambelt every 18months? You're having a laugh!)Scott
Get Autotrader...In the back a guy sells Remanufactured Cylinder heads.....£300 I think... Good chance that the engine has pushed the valves enough to break the camshaft and the Bearing caps for the camshaft.... (you cannot buy the bearing caps separately)... they are line bored for that particular cylinder head..... still I have fitted S/H ones from old heads and got away with it.....Also use the correct head gasket......4 different types from 1 tooth to 4 tooth.... Yours will PROBABLY be a four tooth on the TD. Replace BOTH Timing Belts...Part # 7174114 & 1005828 And also replace Tensioner Part # 7330712 and Jockey wheel...Part # 1005823. (those part #'s may have been superseded) make sure you fit the narrow cam belt... the newer one is wider and if fitted will chaff on the water pump lip and break. Belts on those should be changed every 36000 miles ... and every 72000 miles for Fords manufactured from 09/1997 on. Hope this helps.
