Mondeo 1994 fuel pump change

A small punch can be used instead of the special tool. The special tool merely grabs the sender unit collar to enable you to turn it.

Depressurise injection system and take off fuel cap to prevent vacuum. Remove seat base Remove electrical connector. Grip the plastic bits for the fuel pipes to release them. Tap the retaining collar anticlockwise. Remove pump and sender assembly.

Reverse to refit.

Not rocket science. Can't work out why its 5 spanners rating.

Probably the danger factor from the fuel.

Thanks for the info. I guess I wasn't wrong thinking it's more or less easy thing to do.

Also, a friend of mine had his fuel pump changed by a garage (also on Mondeo) and the new one they've installed is extremely loud. Not only after turning the key but also while driving the car, all the time. Sometimes it seems it's louder than the engine! Is there something wrong with the fuel pump (shouldn't be, it's a new unit) or the garage guys did something wrong?

I'd get them to check it. It should be barely audible when driving.
