Mondeo 'Venting' Air?

Nov 14, 2008 4 Replies

Hello All

Is it normal for this car to make a noise similar to a breath from Darth vader (but faster) after switching off the ignition?

It sounds like air rushing through either the air cleaner or the engine breather system and lasts about 1 second. It dosent seem to do this with the engine running and there are no hisses from the brake master cylinder that i can hear.

I can also hear air flowing behind the dashboard even when the climate control is completely switched off.

Its an 2006 Mk3 Mondeo 2.0L Duratec Engine and any advice is appreciated.

Sounds like the old Ford anti-diesel valve!

There are several likely causes, my bet would be the injection system dropping its pressure. Other possibles are IACV resetting, heater flap vacuum circuits, A/C pressures evening out, probably some more too, but you get the idea.
