Nissan Micra wing replacement and servicing

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows about Micras and can tell me how you would go about removing the front off-side wing panel to replace it with another one? I've got an L reg 1994 1.0L 3dr micra that someone kindly smashed into breaking the repeater lamp and leaving a huge dent. My friend's already tried to take off the wing but hasn't been able to get it off due to the last bolt being hidden under the headlight and not being able to get it off without dismantling a whole lot of stuff including seemingly the bumper. Is this really a job for a bodyshop or should it be quite easy? Got a used wing from a scrap yard to save money and don't really want to pay someone loads to do the work unless really necessary.

Also, a question about servicing: my Dad told me that I might need to get the timing belt replaced and I think that this is supposed to be done before 60000 miles, my car's done about 54000 miles, but I've also read that Micras have a timing chain instead and this might not need to be replaced?

Cheers, Joey

Joey ( snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.co.uk) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

Without having ever played with a Micra, I'd be amazed if you didn't have to remove the bumper to remove the wing. It's such an obvious place to put a fixing that doesn't have to be disguised or hidden.

Still - if only you had the new wing handy, so you can see easily from that where all the fixing holes appear to be, eh?

Don't forget there's also bound to be a load of sealant which will "glue" it on in places, especially around the arch. You DO need to re-seal it on fitting, unless you want road dirt and water everywhere it's not intended to be.
