If it's a petrol engine it could be the coil packs above each plug, they sometimes get damp and short out giving a misfire. Just pull them out and the plugs, dry everything off and re-assemble. That should cure it if not then try some injector cleaner and run it a bit hard for a while (when up to temperature) to blow the cobwebs out.

I tend to agree (having owned a Renfault Laguna) but should you for some reason wish to perservere with it, the following bits may help:

Buy a workshop manual (hint - Ebay ;o) ) Find a good scrapyard with a few later model Renaults in (surprisingly easy to find, or perhaps not?) Clean the idle control valve As mentioned above, replace the coils and leads (might as well do the plugs too) Try unplugging each injector in turn to try and establish whether one cylinder is misbehaving Learn French swear words.

The misfire on the Laguna eventually cleared up, with my help or by itself I don't know, but by then I was bloody sick of it, having had to sort out the cooling system and various electrical bits as well. Happy Renaulting.

According to the RAC man (Who I called out after a warning light came on the dash) it was a cylinder coil not working, apparently it was the 4th that day that he had to replaced. He replaced one of them and it worked. (and only £30 for the part) he also got rid of the symbol on the dash that told me I was poluting the atmostphere (it came on after a while!)
