Thanks to everyone who replied to my other posts. I took it to a garage and he supposedly fixed it, but after a couple of drives around the block, the temp was up in the red again.
But it gets worse... The water in the coolant tank is now dark, murky grey/black stuff, instead of the clear orange water it used to be.
How could this happen? (I've got a really bad feeling about it).
I'm taking it back to the garage tonight but I would appreciate your thoughts too.

If it was the orange stuff, then some ignoramus has mixed the wrong type of coolant with it.
Or it could be the startings of head gasket failure.
But I'd almost put money on mixing coolant types that should *not* be mixed. Get it fully drained, flushed and filled with the correct concentration of only one type NOW!

The orange superplus 2000 has been replaced at most Ford dealers with a dark purple stuff that is apparantly 100% compatible. Certainly when I picked some up it looked like a bottle of diluted black ink so it may not be that terminal. The overheating of course is still a matter for concern.

Yep. He confirmed that he used the purple stuff so that's all it was. To be honest I doubt it made any difference either way to the overheating problem.
He told me it was probably an airlock which woudl clear by itself in a couple weeks.
I'm not hopeful.

He dont sound too good! If he believes it is an airlock has he tried squeezing the hoses to remove it?
I'd ask him to go back and remove the flippin airlock then - it's not that tricky on the Fiesta engine IIRC!
I'm not either. Headgasket gone or a cracked head.
Be wary at any quotes under a couple of hundred quid as it's likely they'll skimp on essential things such as skimming the head and doing a crack test.
