P Reg Ford Fiesta 1.25 Clutch Problem

Help. My 1996 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec 16V has a strange intermittent clutch problem especially when the car hasn't been used over night or from cold. It has a hydraulic clutch. several times a week you press the pedal and it goes right to the floor but the clutch doesn't disengage. The pedal then wont come back up unless you lift it with your foot and then it works again! It's not using any fluid so there is no leak. In the manual it just says there is a master cylinder, a slave cylinder and an inline valve that keeps 1bar of pressure on the clutch to stop it rattling (which it has been doing a little). I did have one of the cylinders replaced about 9 months ago. The clutch return spring is okay and attached to the pedal. The clutch shares the same fluid reservoir as the brakes I think. Anyone got any ideas? any help really appreciated. Thanks.

The master cylinder seals have failed.

Mrcheerful

ISTR reading about them turning inside-out on occasion, when they've failed, which might explain the chap's symptoms.

Si

inside-out on occasion, when they've failed,

Thnaks for your help, it was the master cylinder which had failed, but i hasd only just had that replaced, so was still under warranty. matt
