P0170 on a 1.8 Vectra

I've had that on my 1.8 Zafira a couple of times. Cleared it both times with OBD2 reader and it hasn't come back. From the research I did at the time, the MAF sensor can cause this, and (very) careful cleaning may sort it. I intend to try this if the code returns.

It clears, but comes back instantly with the service light - so it needs to be sorted quickly. Thanks for the input.

We have had that on our Zafira 1.8 too. In both instances it happened when the battery was low and the engine failed to fire cleanly. It immediately went into horrible over choke running with no throttle control. Turning it off then on reset normal running thank goodness. No help I know but brought back memories..........not good when on holiday ! ;-)

air leak on induction side is the first thing to hunt for.

I found something amiss in the pipework department and the owner says the service light problem seems not to have shown since.

Offside, mounted on the inner wing alongside the strut mount - a rubber pipe forming an horizontal U shape, with some sort of valve or actuator attached. The pipe just ended open and seemed to have a vacuum on it. Then found a hard plastic pipe which disappeared (at a guess) towards the rear of the car, the end of which was tucked into the plastic box tray in front of the plenum.

My guess is that this is the system and pipe which purges the fumes from the petrol tank. Can anyone confirm? Would this being disconnected cause the service light to appear?

yes. that is one of the items that autodata list as possible cause
