Paintwork Query

Aug 03, 2005 0 Replies

Hi All

Some of the lacquer has peeled away on the bumper of my car the paintwork underneath is sound

I want to re-spray with lacquer

Can I just flat off the edges of the existing lacquer and give the area a respray or have I got to do the whole bumper?

If the whole bumper needs to be done can I just flat the existing lacquer with say 1200 grit clean down and spray over or have I got to remove all existing lacquer from the whole bumper?

If the whole lot has got to be removed back to the base coat what is the easiest way of doing this?

I have a standard spray gun (not hvlp) and some Viton acrylic lacquer + thinners what would be the best psi to use ( If I recall I have in the past thinned 50/50 for first coats and down to

80 thinners/ 20 lacquer for final coat does this sound about right?)

Any advice much appreciated

Tony
