Peugeot 306 Front Suspension

Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone has ever replaced the front suspension bushes on a

306? If so was it an easy job? In particular was it difficult to remove the old bushes at the front of the lower suspension arm?

I am reasonably competent at most car repair jobs but have never had to replaced suspension bushes before.

Thanks

You're probably better off replacing the whole arm. In general these sort of bushes are pressed into the arm, and are a pain to properly press in, and adding to that there's the fact that when they're knackered getting the remains out can be an absolute pig, and a lot of garages end up using a blowtorch to burn the remains out.

Best thing is to just buy whole new arms with the bushes in place - you'll probably find it's not that much more at all anyway, and minimal hassle in fitting them.

Of course, if they're the type of bushes that just slip over a metal bar (such as tie-bar or anti-roll bar) then they're not too bad, though bear in mind the anti-roll bar is flexible, and can be a bitch to line up later on - you'll need to steer the wheels one way, then do up one lot of bolts, then steer them the other way so things aren't miles out and will actually fit in place. Hard to explain, but should become clear when you do it.

In my experience, you can buy the bushes from main dealers and motor factors, but they come with a free suspension arm attached. £35ish per side from a main dealer if my memory serves me correctly.

I priced parts up myself before I just paid someone else to do it. (c:

Can't see it being that complex, you might have to swear a bit and bash things with hammers, but its all good.

Like what others have said, replace the whole arm. There was a good reason why I bought the last pair from the main dealer rather than a motor factor but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I know they weren't expensive and fairly easy to fit.

Thanks for all of the useful responses. I'm going to get a quote tomorrow evening on having the work done and I'll decide then.

Incidentally do the rear bushes usually come with the arm? It is the rear bushes that are showing the most wear although the fronts might as well be done at the same time.

Thanks

Ended up taking the car in to have just the rear bushes replaced. I was charged £120 which included having the tracking done. Bit expensive, I know, but at least it's sorted now.
