Possible Brake Question

Aug 17, 2004 4 Replies

Hi All

Recently my 1998 Escort has started to make alot of noise when driving along in a straight line or to the left. The noise is almost like the brakes are stuck on.

The noise goes when I either press the brakes or turn to the right.

The brakes are getting quite noisy anyway, but it seems like the brakes are sticking on in some respects.

The noise seems to be coming from the front of the car. The only thing I can suggest is the brakes need looking at. I have had new disks and pads put on

8 months ago for the MOT.

Any help would be appreciated and yes, I am getting it checked, just wanted some other oppinions before the mechanic arrives.

Thanks

Karl

If you jack up each wheel in turn and try to spin it you may well find what the problem is. It's difficult to tell from a distance. At least you might find which wheel is causing the noise.

Thanks Rob, Ill give it a go before the mechanic comes.

spin the wheel and see where it's making the noise

99% of the time it will be a sticking calliper slider remove the 7mm Allen bolt, grease it up and it will free itself off

Sounds like you have a badly worn O/S/F wheel bearing.
