Afternoon all
I'm after a bit of advice as neither my local garage who specialise in German cars or myself can find the cause of a f@cking annoying fault with my car. for the past 6 weeks my car has intermittently suffered from lose of power and erratic revs in low gears (anything below
40mph, and 400-1200rpm when idling), but the strange thing is that over 50mph it performs how it should.I brought a 2nd hand throttle body which included the throttle servo and potentiometer , both of which were tested and found to be in 100% working order. The three earthing points have been cleaned checked and double checked and appear to be as they should be, but there is rather a lot of rust on the main earthing point under the battery and I'm not sure if this would cause a problem (not holed in anyway, but will require treating.
The car is mechanically in fantastic condition for it's age and mileage (1995 M reg 134k miles), so I'm starting to get the feeling that it could be the ECU.
As we have a nice three day weekend i would like to spend some time on the car, but i'm not sure what else i can check. The car has been booked into the garage on Friday of nextweek and i have been warned that it could take a full days work to track the fault down (systematically checking the wiring) and it could be the ECU.
Any pointers, or advice on how to track a wiring fault would be very much appreciated.
