Punto engine AWOL

More Fiat tales of woe

Today I borrowed the wifes Punto to pop down the shops. On the way back noticed the gear lever was at a strange angle. Popped the bonnet and the engine has come away from the front passenger side mounting and the passenger side drive shaft seems to have pulled away from the gearbox.

It would appear to be a case of jacking the engine back into the mounting, but what are the implications with refitting the drive shaft are we talking an easy DIY fix

The mounting itself appears to be a rubber mounted threaded stud, with no signs of shearing or stripped threads. As my local garage replaced the gearbox 2 months ago I'm wondering if they did not tighten the nut fully.

Any suggestions?

Ring your local garage & ask them what they're going to do about it? Refitting the driveshafts fairly easy, has the oil come out?

No oil leakage, noticed the gaiter has split though. Spoken to the garage, they are coming out for a look later in the week.

Thinking back since the gearbox replacement there has always been a knock when changing gear, and the gear lever noticeably flapped when applying/letting off the throttle.

Out of interest presumably the retaining nut on the mounting would be a locking type - a Nyloc or a nut with a retaining tab etc, and should there be any rubber bushing under the nut once repaired.

As you guys agree with me its a shoddy job, I'm wanting them to put it right FOC. Will let you know how I get on

cheers
