Question about DAEWOO NUBIRA cam

Hi Have been looking at a Nubrira LPG automatic and have been told the car has a noisy cam, the seller says he has had it a while and the cam noise has always been there, its a 1999 model, he does not know if the belt has been changed but he seems to recall the previous owner said it had, car has only done 60000 miles, any ideas what it could be?? dont want to buy it and it turn out to be an expensive repair.

Also have been told the car should do 40mpg is this about right??

Thanks in advance

40mpg...driving how ?? Doubtful anyhow...its an auto.

It's a recycled Vx Family 2 engine- replace the cam AND the followers.

More info would be good!

It comes with an in-date LPG certificate does it?

Certificate yes, wonder if he means equiv 40mpg which would be really poor. dont mind showing you the url then you have all the info I have.

Still looking but the Daewoo looks nice, would really really like a new Corsa tiptronic but missed the lottery this week!!!!

We had one of these as a pool car at work back in 2001. It was unreliable, uneconomical, not nice to drive at all. He will mean 40mpg equivalent, not a snowballs chance in hell of getting 40mpg out of one of these!

There is so much more that's better for that money - countless mondeo autos for a start. Do yourself a favour and buy something, anything other than that:-)

Ooooh its a 2litre auto. (!) These are really really really uber un-economical.

Something like an Omega 2.5 V6 auto will be better on fuel than the Daewoo.(and far nicer to drive)

Avoid.

No, avoid the Mondeo Auto (and the Rover 2.0 auto also) the rubbish Jatco box is a box of problems.

Thanks everyone - will avoid suggested cars. Looking around the commonest lpg cars seem to be vectra's, frontera's (loads of these) and the odd astra. By choice would like an astra but will keep looking, it's a shame it has to be an auto due to the mpg but my wife has a knee prob, if I can't find one may wait till she has had her knee op and go for a manual, Time will tell!!! any more suggestions welcome.

I wouldn't buy a medium-high miler Mondeo auto, not unless it's had a replacement box...

OK, I;m wrong about the Mondeo, but I'm not wrong about the Daewoo ;-)

Isn't it only the 2.0? I thought the 2.5 V6 was OK.
