I reckon that's pretty cheap myself, assuming of course that the guys doing the job aren't like the monkeys on that series "The Garage". JB

The springs are =A360 for the pair thats =A3140 labour less the vat for a

2 hour job.

Srings seem cheap. Whose manufacture? Labour sounds pretty much par for the course although an hour per side may be a little optimistic.

Richard ( snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :

GSF reckons £36.50 each plus VAT for four-cylinder E46.

So for the pair and including VAT, that's £86 of the £200, leaving just over £95+vat for the labour. Not the cheapest two hours, but certainly not excessive, depending on where you are.

Replacing rear springs on an E46 is undo two bolts, a little heave ho-ing and put the bolts back. I reckon it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes for the whole job. Unless for some reason the suspension on a

320d is different.

I should have added that I made no comment on the likelihood of two hours for the job...

But why the bloody hell are so many 5yo "quality cars" needing new springs anyway, ffs...?

My Dad's 2001 320d needed new rear springs recently also. Seems they fail frequently on this model.

My M3 needed them (one) after two years and the 740 needed one at 10. None of my other cars have ever broken a spring although it does seem quite common in general.

"not the most expensive too hours" is exactly the frame of mind these places want you to be in when in fac tit only takes 30 minutes. Plus of course the booking in, the driving around etc etc.

Don't you go blaming me! Richard said it was two hours...

Of course, if this is a BMW dealer price, then £95 is about right for half an hour labour - except the parts price'd be higher...

Made to fail, and so many people are prepared to fork out and not question the amount of time it takes.

Recently took my vehicle for handbrake shoes at a local garage, got a lift to collect it in a friends car, my own vehicle passed us at around

80mph, SOME HANDBRAKE TEST!!!!!!, so im paying this guy =A325 an hour to joyride using my fuel.

If you want a BMW dealership to tackle the job you can reckon on =A3350, at least if you fit BMW genuine part you know they are going to fail in

4 years, and can start saving.

Heh, it's the price you pay for driving BMWs...

£70 an hour labour is just stupid, especially with cars as unreliable and BMWs more recent offerings.

I'll bet there's no main dealer in London that charges less than 70 quid an hour.

I don't for a moment doubt that you're right.

I do, however, doubt the sanity of anyone who pays that much.
