Radio display not showing radio information

I have got my car radio working ('N' reg Vectra) after putting in the code and it works fine and dandy but there is no information (station etc.) diplayed on the little LED in the dash. Normally it works fine showing date, time etc. but when I turn the radio on the second line (date) goes off. The upper part of the display in unaffected.

Does anyone have a clue as to why this is and can I fix it easily/cheaply? Is something not connected properyly? I'm too mean to get someone to fix it and may have to be content to drive about not knowing which station I'm tuned to. Otherwise I will have to leave it on Radio 4 which will not please the rest of my family. ;-)

Cheers,

hey,

the same thing happened in my 1995 astra after installing a new sony cd player There is an 'AF' button on the tuner to autotune stations while on the move...when i am playing a cd and hit the af button the display on the dash comes back and there is no change on the display on the cd player - weird alright

Hmm, well, that's a useful (if obvious) tip to know what that button is for. I shall give it a press when I'm next in the car. Ta.

Switch the set off and press and hold the station pre set buttons 4 and 6. The display will scroll thru from Display 10.......Display 8

+2.......Display 8. Try each of these settings until your display works as they are the amount of digits in the display.

Some units (Depending whether Philips, VDO or Delco) use station pre set buttons 3 and 5 and even 2 and 4 if the 1st doesn't work

Have you tried pressing the "RDS" button?

When I drove our Astra pool car, it was doing the same, and not re-tuning the station (amazing how you get used to it!).

I found the RDS button, and everything started working.

Sod 'em.

I recently found out why radios have tuning knobs - it's so you can find R4 again when you move house.

I should have said you need to turn the set on whilst holding the station pre sets....Sorry

Of course. Also I find it useful for _very slight_ tuning on long journeys. Why tuning knobs turn so much when they only have to go between 92-95fm seems a waste to me.

Point of order...

I'm a Radio 4 addict and 33. I might be a fart, but not *old*, please.

I didn't grow up listening to R4. SMWBO did, and she's converted me.

I don't even object to the Archers any more...
