Checked air filter yesterday and was quite surprised at how clean it was ...
Exhaust guy said common problem as well but then said could't see any soot ....
any ideas anyone.......
Quite common on that engine.
Look at the air filter. When the manifold gasket goes they suck in soot up the hot air pipe and soot up the filter really quickly.
Also some cheep exaughst have a very bad sound almost like if they are leaking. has it had a new section fitted not so long ago.
I always found the manifold to downpipe joints a complete bastard to get right. Plenty of jointing paste, but make sure you've cleaned off all the old stuff first.
